COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Legislation Support
Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
In 2022, No Peace No Quiet, Inc., was one of the 437 Nonprofit organizations who supported The National Task Force to End Sexual & Domestic Violence ‘NTF’ helping to secure the 2022 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) with Congress; resulting in nearly $225 Million in grants designed to enhance victim services and justice solutions for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. We will continue to keep fighting for additional funding and more resources for victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse.
Federal Anti-SLAPP LawsThere was a tremendous amount of discussion in the community regarding Representative Jamie Raskin Anti SLAPP bill. No Peace No Quiet was concerned over the devastating repercussions this may have on survivors after the Katie Hill case in California.
Ms. Hill is the ex-congressperson from California, who resigned from Congress in 2019 after nude photos of her were published by the Daily Mail. Ms. Hill ended up losing her lawsuit she filed in California due to the same Anti-SLAPP laws the Subcommittee for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties wanted to put in place at the federal level. Ms. Hill was ordered to pay the defendants, her predators, $220,000 in attorney’s fees and has since filed for bankruptcy.
In late October 2022, No Peace No Quiet, Inc., met with Senior Counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives and Staff Director of Oversight Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties to voice our concerns regarding the Federal Anti SLAPP bill. They listened to our concerns and will help work towards addressing legislative language to mitigate, where possible to avoid a re-occurrence of what happened to Katie Hill.

LOOKING FORWARD
As we reflect on the accomplishments of our first year in business, we are invigorated by the road ahead. The challenges posed by domestic violence persist, but so does our determination to create a world free from abuse.
No Peace No Quiet, Inc., has been a passion project for the past year where we learned the advantages and disadvantages of online support communities in the wake of COVID. Based on tips and complaints from survivors, the deeper we have dived into the online support community, the more we realize the need for our services.
Moving forward, we aim to expand our reach through innovative digital platforms, forge a deeper connection within our community and legislators to help victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse. With the continued support of our community, partners, and volunteers, we are confident that No Peace No Quiet, Inc., will continue to be an example of hope, strength, and transformation for survivors of domestic violence.
